NEW YORK — The Port Authority has appointed Ed Harrison general manager of Stewart International Airport.

Harrison, manager of properties and commercial development at Newark and Teteboro airports, will succeed Rich Heslin later this month.

"Ed's got a strong business background and his key role, as it was with Rich, will be to help attract new airlines to Stewart," said Ron Marsico, a Port Authority spokesman.

Harrison joined the Port Authority in 1993, after almost 20 years at Universal Maritime Service Corp., a subsidiary of Maersk USA. As vice president of business development, he was responsible for bringing new cargo and shipping companies to Universal's terminals.

Heslin, Stewart's second general manager since the Port Authority took over the airport in 2007, will become general manager at Newark and Teterboro. He left Teterboro in 2011 to move to Stewart.

The Port Authority's aviation director, Thomas Bosco, announced the appointments Thursday as part of a new leadership slate for the agency's airports.

Lysa Scully, deputy general manager at La Guardia, will become general manager — succeeding Bosco, who was promoted in May. Heslin is succeeding Bosco's new deputy, Huntley Lawrence.

In addition, Michael Moran, manager of physical plant and redevelopment at La Guardia, will become general manager at JFK. He succeeds Gennaro Spampanato, who is retiring.

"Each of these highly competent and respected professionals owns an impressive and proven track record of success working for the busiest and most challenging airport system in the world," said Bosco in a statement about the appointments.

Bosco said this team will help carry out the Port Authority's planned $8 billion airport modernization program over the next 10 years.
