President Container Cuts Ribbon on Major Installation at Town of Wallkill Plant

Since its relocation to Orange County 15 years ago, President Container Group has continually expanded and invested in its operations in the Town of Wallkill. Last month, the firm, owned by the Grossbard family, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its third Mitsubishi Evol Flexo Folder Gluer at its “super-plant” on Ballard Road.

Officials with the corrugated products manufacturer were joined by more than 50 employees, customers and guests at the ceremony held on Jan. 13. Its latest investment is tied to its goal of producing 3 billion square feet of corrugated products a year. According to industry publication Board Converting News, the firm produced 2.1 billion square feet of product, besting 2023’s production of 1.9 billion square feet. Company officials stated the introduction of its latest equipment will help it achieve its lofty goal, which has been achieved by very few manufacturing operations in the United States.

“I am proud of everything you have accomplished, Matt (Grossbard, plant manager), and everything we have accomplished together,” said PCG’s co-owner and president, Larry Grossbard.

The company has been on a steady and impressive growth path. When it arrived in Orange County in 2010 from Moonachie, NJ, President Container produced 1 billion square feet of product and had a workforce of 143 employees. Currently, the company’s payroll has shot up to nearly 400.

Grossbard told Board Converting News the importance back in 2020 of reaching the 2-billion-square-foot mark and its goals going forward. “Reaching that milestone, however, only inspired us to aim higher,” said Larry Grossbard. “Our new vision was to produce three billion square-feet annually, a volume achieved by very few box plants in America. This required significant investment and we believe the way to be successful is constant investment in your plant, its machinery and its people.”

Almost four years ago, President Container broke ground on a 100,000-square-foot expansion that eventually brought the facility to 622,000 square feet. Previously, the firm constructed a solar farm consisting of 20,000 solar panels that generates 2.2 megawatts of solar power that supplies the entire energy needs of the company’s Ballard Road operations.

Maureen Halahan, president and CEO of The Orange County Partnership, who attended the latest ribbon-cutting ceremony at President Container, said, “The Grossbard family relocated to Orange County in 2010 from, bringing hundreds of jobs and making significant investments in the Town of Wallkill and Orange County. President Container Group had the flexibility to establish their operations anywhere but chose Orange County because they believed in its potential. Since then, they’ve expanded their business, installed solar fields, invested in advanced manufacturing technology, and increased their workforce to 390 employees. Looking ahead, their goal is to continue to grow sales by 10% year-over-year. President Container Group is a true Orange County success story!”

Underscoring the company’s commitment to its Orange County plant and its goal of reaching 3 billion square feet of product a year, Board Converting News stated that at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Grossbard quoted the famous line from the iconic baseball motion picture “Field of Dreams,” saying: “If you build it, they will come.”
